Assam’s Directorate of Technical Education is an initiative of NEC Scholarship by Northeast Council (NEC). The main objective of the NEC Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to the economically backward candidates of the North East Region (NER) to pursue their higher education through engineering and other professional courses. Students can also take a diploma, certificate course, UG level degree, PG level degree, Ph.D., and MPhil degree.

The NEC Scholarship 2022 is a merit scholarship for qualified candidates who are willing to continue their studies but are unable to due to their financial woes. Those candidates can avail of the benefits offered by scholarships which are following various subjects within or outside NER India. Applications for Schindler Igniting Minds Scholarship have been invited by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India.

NEC Scholarship 2022 – Comprehensive Details

This scholarship is for all these students who want to do a diploma/degree/postgraduate / MPhil / Ph.D. The objective of this scholarship is to provide assistance to students from the North East region to study different subjects from the Indian Institute. Under this scholarship, a scholarship of up to INR 30,000 per year is awarded to students. NEC Scholarship main objective is to provide financial assistance to the students and encourage them for further studies.

NEC Scholarship – Eligibility Criteria  

Students of Kerala who wish to get selected for NEC Scholarship must fulfil the following eligibility criteria before applying for this scholarship

  • The candidate should be a permanent resident of any state of the North Eastern Region (NER).
  • Candidates should have good academic qualifications for the course chosen from any recognized university/institute.
  • General category applicants must obtain at least 70% marks in the final qualifying examination for the desired course.
  • Whereas students of SC / ST class should score at least 60% marks in the final qualifying examination for the desired course.
  • Applicant should pursue diploma/certificate course, bachelor’s degree, postgraduate degree, Ph.D. or MPhil degree.
  • The annual family income of the candidate should not exceed INR 4, 50,000 (from all sources).
  • The candidate should not be employed and should not receive financial support from any other sources.

NEC Scholarship – Documents Required

While filling up the application form of NEC scholarship, some important documents will be needed by the students, make sure to keep them handy. Following are the documents needed by the students

  • The candidate should get a Recommendation letter (from the Head of the Institute)
  • Permanent Residence certificate of the candidate.
  • Undertaking by the candidate for not availing any other scholarship.
  • Undertaking by the applicant to refund the scholarship amount in the case of submission of incorrect information
  • Copies of all the relevant certificates and mark sheets (Attested)

NEC Scholarship – Application Procedure

The step-by-step process of applying for NEC Scholarship is given below. Eligible candidates can apply for this scholarship before the last date expires.

  • First of all, you have to go to its official website, where its home page will open in front of you.

  • We have to click on the ‘New Registration’ tab on the page.
  • You are advised to read all the guidelines carefully, select the undertaking, and then click on the ‘Continue’ option.

  • After clicking on the “continue” option, enter the required details such as domicile status, scholarship category, scholarship scheme type, gender, name, date of birth and email id, mobile number.
  • You will need to provide bank details such as bank name, IFSC code, and account number.

  • After this select the identification number either Aadhaar number or bank account number and then click on the ‘Register‘ button.
  • The mobile number entered is verified and an OTP will be generated on your phone.
  • Applicants log into the website using the generated OTP and enter all the correct details in the application form.
  • An application ID and password are generated which will be used for future references.
  • Once the application is submitted, it cannot be changed. Therefore, you should verify all the details.
  • Multiple application submissions are rejected by the Scholarship Committee. Therefore, you should only fill and submit an application form.

NEC Scholarship – Selection Procedure

Students who fulfil all the eligibility criteria for this scholarship are selected based on the criteria laid by the government. Read below to know about the selection process in detail.

  • Applicants are purely selected on the basis of merit as NEC Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship.
  • For the final selection of candidates, the scholarship considers the academic merit prescribed for each of the courses.
  • After the proper advertisement, it is the State Government of the respective North-Eastern state who is responsible for the selection of the candidates.
  • Candidates are advised to go through the selection procedure displayed in the Annexure 5 of the official scholarship notification.
  • The stipulated stipend amount is disbursed directly to the respective institute of the candidate by the state government
  • Every year by December, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) begins the scrutinization of the scholarship applications.
  • And after that, the list of the shortlisted candidates is prepared by January every year.
  • The sanctioned scholarship amount is drawn within March 31 every year after the final selection.
  • The scholarship amount is disbursed to the selected candidates through ECS Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

All the applications received along with the required documents will be scrutinized and shortlisted by December every year. The information about the NEC Scholarship Results is provided below –

  • The results of the NCE scholarship is published on the official website of DTE, Assam by January every year.
  • DTE prepares the final list of selected candidates by January every year.
  • The candidates should go through the final list to confirm their chances of receiving the scholarship.
  • After declaring the scholarship results, the scholarship amount for the NEC scholarship is drawn by the end of March.
  • The scholarship amount is disbursed to the selected candidates by the DTE, Assam on March 31, 2020.

Students who are selected for the NEC Scholarship will get following benefits –

  • Students pursuing Diploma will receive INR 20,000.
  • The Students pursuing Degree will receive INR 22,000.
  • Students pursuing Postgraduate will receive INR 25,000.
  • Students pursuing Ph.D./M.Phil. will receive INR 30,000.

NEC Scholarship- Renewal

Once the scholarship is completed for one year, the applicants need to renew the scholarship for next year one i.e. from 1st of April of the current year to 31st March of the next year. Read below to know the complete criteria to be fulfilled in order to apply for the renewal scholarship:

  • Candidates who wish to apply for renewal should get the scholarship renewal form from the respective state government and need to fill up in the prescribed format.
  • Recommendation letter from the head of the institute is needed for renewing the scholarship.
  • The recommendation letter is obtained strictly based on the satisfactory performance of the scholar.
  • Failure in the academic year will lead to discontinuation of the stipend for the entire period.
  • The future renewal of the scholarship is recommended only from the date of qualifying the next higher class/ semester.
  • The sanction order along with the statement for renewal of the scholarship need to be submitted to the NEC.

  • Renewal Applicants must first visit the NEC Scholarship official website to renew the application.
  • After that you have to log in to the website using email id and password and edit the old application form which is present in the National Scholarship Portal.

  • PHD. / MPhil Renewal Candidates are required to attach the latest progress report provided by the guide and verified by the Registrar.
  • Then you [need to submit the NEC Scholarship Renewal Form to the Head of the concerned institution for recommendation.
